2018-08-02 - Day 4 - Off to Labrador City

Finished my notes for the blog last night, poured myself a whisky and was thinking about starting dinner. Instead, it started to rain. Arrg. Picked up all the cooking stuff and put it in the car. Sat down to eat an apple and sip on the whisky, and hope it was just a shower. It stopped, started, stopped, and then decided to really piss down.

The good news - I stayed 100% dry all night. The bad news - I got soaked to the bone breaking camp this morning. I had a rain coat- but by the time I went to the car and found it - I was pretty wet.

There was no way I was cooking in the pouring rain - so loaded everything in the car - and off I went. Right at the turn on to 389 - bingo - great little greasy spoon - good coffee and bacon and eggs.

The plan for today had been to drive up to Relais Gabriel on the shore of Lake Manicouagan - and have a look around.

But - that was not going to work. Turns out that it was still raining fairly hard - and the camping would have basically been in the back of the truck stop parking lot. Got gas and coffee, and headed for Labrador City!

The roads continued to be really pretty all day. Tons of the classic Black Spruce you see all over this country as you enter the Boreal Forest - especially in the northern part of it (in my experience). Also - started to see Reindeer Moss! Cool - I am in the north!

Gravel - did I remember to mention most of the day today was on gravel (about 500 km total, maybe 350 km on gravel)?

The Manic 5 Dam - Wow - very cool. This is what creates Lake Manicouagan

A view down to the Lake

Cool - waiting in a construction line - looked in the mirror and liked the view - Tried this picture. Works for me.

A view of the mine just south of the Labrador Border

A short video!
 Bingo - entering Labrador!

Last - a dirty car! Parked in a hotel parking lot. It was still drizzling, the camping place did not have a shower - and therefore - I shall sleep in the lap of luxury tonight!

That's it - more tomorrow.

TTFN,
Sandy
